Pleading poverty, Bush has cut funds for teaching Iraqis how to organize political parties (ship Rove to Bagdad now!) and unions. This is obviously insane or a belated April Fool's story. But I swear it is true.
While President Bush vows to transform Iraq into a beacon of democracy in the Middle East, his administration has been scaling back funding for the main organizations trying to carry out his vision by building democratic institutions such as political parties and civil society groups. The administration has included limited new money for traditional democracy promotion in budget requests to Congress. Some organizations face funding cutoffs this month, while others struggle to stretch resources through the summer. The shortfall threatens projects that teach Iraqis how to create and sustain political parties, think tanks, human rights groups, independent media outlets, trade unions and other elements of democratic society.
Human rights groups? Unions? INDEPENDENT MEDIA??? Ok, Karl Rove's secret plan to make us laugh to death is tiresome. If we want to encourage human rights, independent media and unions, then we should use these funds or vote for funds to arrest Bush, arrest Rove, arrest all of these war criminals who attack our unions, outsource our jobs and torture people.
What else can I say at this point? Like a typical German medieval fairytale, the evil step President wishes for exactly that which is his own doom. But then, Bush isn't funding any of this, he is too busy egging us into committing mass suicide with Iran.
Arrest him.
This is off-topic, but I just wanted to let you know that I am glad to see you have recommenced with the illustrations at your blog. I was afraid there for awhile that you weren't going to be giving us those anymore, and I enjoy them.
