Bush Cuts Homeland Security Funds By 50% To DC And NYC

Like Saruman in the Lord of the Rings, going again and again to the Palantir to take orders from Sauron, so does Bush go to Geronimo's skull to ask for advice. Bush wants to rule the world. He thinks Geronimo has to magic powers to give him this boon. This is why Bush suddenly decided to cut the money needed to protect NYC and DC by 50% and spend it on Omaha. After all, the insurance industry offices are prime terrorist targets, right, Gollum?

Bush is deliberately endangering NYC and DC because he desperately wants another 9/11, perhaps a 6/6/6.

WASHINGTON, May 31 — After vowing to steer a greater share of anti-terrorism money to the nation's highest-risk cities, Homeland Security officials today announced grants to New York City and Washington that would be slashed by 40 percent, while dollars headed to spots including Omaha and Louisville, Ky., would surge.

The release of the 2006 urban area grant allocations, which total $757 million, drew an immediate condemnation from leaders of Washington and New York, the two targets of the 2001 terrorist attacks, as well as expressions of befuddlement by anti-terrorism experts.

"When you stop a terrorist, they have a map of New York City in their pocket," Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg said. "They don't have a map of any of the other 46 or 45 places."

Homeland Security officials said a more sophisticated grant evaluation process—combined with a smaller overall allocation of funds from Congress—were responsible for the unexpected results.

For the first time, they also said, teams of law enforcement officials from around the nation evaluated the effectiveness of the proposed spending plans submitted by the 46 eligible urban areas, cutting grants for cities that had shoddy or poorly articulated plans.

"We want to make sure we are not simply pushing dollars out of Washington," said Tracy Henke, assistant secretary for grants and training. "The reality is you have to understand that there is risk throughout the nation."

This is either part of the "make bin Laden laugh to death" program or it is how a murderous, antisocial pyschopath like Gollum would run things if he were our Overlord. There should be no doubt in anyone's minds that the GOP and Bush want to kill America. This is called "TREASON."

The explanation that DC and NYC didn't have a good "program" unlike Omaha----is sheer insanity. No, it is much beyond insanity. It is what a rank traitor would say as an excuse. Imagine if you lived in a castle and the King said he was going to open the gates and let the Mongol hordes enter and burn the place down because the mayor didn't fill out the proper forms.

Traitors. The King is a traitor. My family came across the storm-tossed seas because they chose to behead a king who was judged by Parliament to be a traitor and when his son came back into England, we had to flee. And we fought King George III, too.

RATS. My ancestors fought King John and were at Runnymeade. And in retrospect, John Lackland was tons better than Bush Lackbrains. I am just so flabbergasted. Bush is nakedly destroying America. Not only has he left our borders open so anyone and everyone can cross whenever they please, he farms out port security to the same countries that funded and hosted the 9/11 attackers and now he does everything in his power to insure that neither city can prepare for or survive another massive attack.

The military won't arrest Bush. Congress won't impeach him. The govenors who are also Republicans support this network of traitorhood. They are obviously co-conspiritors.

This is why they wave the flag and yell a lot. Hitler betrayed Germany and these fascists won't hesitate when betraying America to her enemies. This is why they are driving us into bankruptcy, this is why they refuse to do even the simplest things to prepare for the Hubbert Oil Peak. This is why the co-conspire with corporations that aren't even American anymore to loot America. This is why they encourage severe debts, trade deficits and budget deficits.

No enemy could destroy our future as totally as the Republicans and their enablers. This is no joke.

Arrest them. Arrest the conspiritors destroying America. How dare they?

As for NYC: WAKE UP!!!! The first city to disappear in a mushroom cloud in WWIII will be your city! No other! It is literally ground zero, part II. All the tax cuts in the world will be meaningless. Property values will be zero. And the dead can't take anything past the Gates of Death, either.

Poor sales and new-model changeovers could force GM and Ford to announce third-quarter production cuts when automakers report their May U.S. sales results on Thursday, a development that would cut into earnings, analysts said.

Japanese automakers Toyota Motor Corp. (7203.T: Quote, Profile, Research) and Honda Motor Co. Ltd. (7267.T: Quote, Profile, Research) are expected to have seen strong gains because of the popularity of their passenger cars and a reputation for quality and fuel-efficiency.

GM sent me a letter telling me to go to their dealership to pick up a prize but only if I showed up on time. The letter arrived three days after the date they gave! So I not only couldn't collect my prize, I got really seriously pissed off at them.

BAGHDAD, Iraq - U.S. forces killed two Iraqi women — one of them about to give birth — when the troops shot at a car that failed to stop at an observation post in a city north of Baghdad, Iraqi officials and relatives said Wednesday. Nabiha Nisaif Jassim, 35, was being raced to the maternity hospital in Samarra by her brother when the shooting occurred Tuesday.

Jassim, the mother of two children, and her 57-year-old cousin, Saliha Mohammed Hassan, were killed by the U.S. forces, according to police Capt. Laith Mohammed and witnesses.

The U.S. military said coalition troops fired at a car after it entered a clearly marked prohibited area near an observation post but failed to stop despite repeated visual and auditory warnings.

The US says it is ready to join direct multilateral talks with Iran on its nuclear programme if Tehran suspends disputed nuclear activities.
US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said the US would join EU nations in talks if Iran suspended uranium enrichment and reprocessing work.

President Bush said he believed the issue could be solved diplomatically.

Analysts say the move comes as a policy shift for the US, which has had little official contact with Iran since 1979.

Washington broke off diplomatic ties after Iranian militants seized the US embassy in Tehran and held diplomats hostage.

The Chinese forced us to talk to the North Koreans and we still won't do what everyone wants but at least we stopped talking about butchering everyone. So now the Chinese applied the same process to the Iran issue. Despite Israel shrieking like a banshee, Bush will be forced to behave in a semi-civilized way.

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) - The former chairman of the Kansas Republican Party jumped ship in a big way Tuesday, switching his affiliation to Democrat amid speculation that he would become Gov. Kathleen Sebelius' running mate.
Johnson County Elections Commissioner Brian Newby confirmed that Mark Parkinson, the state GOP chairman from 1999 to 2003, came to the office and switched his party affiliation shortly before noon.
Parkinson's name has been widely circulated as Sebelius' choice for a running mate as the Democratic governor seeks a second term. Current Lt. Gov. John Moore - another former Republican - is retiring when his term expires in early 2007.

There was a rush to join the Repubs when they took over America. Now there is an increasing rush to the exits. Sinking ships and all that.

NEW YORK Karl Zinsmeister, the new chief domestic adviser to President Bush, while embedded with the 82nd Airborne in Kuwait in 2003, declared that "many of the journalists observable in this war theater are bursting with knee-jerk suspicions and antagonisms for the warriors all around them. A significant number are whiny and appallingly soft."

Zinsmeister, editor-in-chief of the American Enterprise Institute's magazine, wrote the article for the National Review, and it appeared on March 28, 2003. He was appointed to the top adviser post last week.

Today, in a separate matter, The Washington Post revealed that Zinsmeister now acknowledges that he erred in taking a newspaper profile of himself, altering quotes and text, and then re-posting it on another Web site without noting the changes.

On the new tape shot by an Iraqi journalism student and given to ABC News by the Hammurabi Human Rights Group in Iraq, Younis, soft-spoken, with rounded cheeks and a headscarf, begins by calmly telling the interviewer, "My name is Safa Younis. I'm 12 years old."

The interviewer asks, "What did the American soldiers do when they broke into the house?"

"They knocked at the door," Younis says. "My father went to open it, they shot him dead from behind the door, and then they shot him again after they opened the door."

She describes hearing the Marines go through the rest of the house, shooting and setting off a grenade before getting to the bedroom where she was with her mother and siblings.

"Then comes one American soldier and shot [at] us all," she says. "I pretended to be dead … and he did not know about me."

I have been aware of this massacre since the week it happened. Alert readers on the internet had many opportunities to see the information. It is finally oozing past the giant propaganda wall surrounding America and getting aired on major TV stations. About time!

BAGHDAD, Iraq — With a new Iraqi government in place, Iran is positioning itself to play a major role here at a time when American influence is showing signs of faltering.

That is worrisome to Iraq's Arab neighbors, especially Sunni-dominated countries such as Saudi Arabia and Egypt. But it also raises serious questions for Washington, including the wisdom of withdrawing entirely from Iraq when it has long been considered the eastern defense against Iranian expansion.

Concerns about Iran have simmered since the March 2003 U.S.-led invasion of Iraq removed a Sunni-dominated dictatorship and set the stage for democracy _ or, inevitably, Shiite rule in a country where Shiites hold an overwhelming majority.

Those issues have now come to the fore because of Iran's confrontational stance over its nuclear program. In effect, Iran's recent robust behavior in Iraq serves to remind Washington that it has its own cards to play _ including influence among Iraqi Shiites _ if the Americans threaten Tehran militarily over its plans to enrich uranium.

The neo cons running our country blunder from diplomatic disaster to military disaster. Even giant empires with no rivals can't survive so many assaults on its own existence. Bin Laden couldn't hire better destroyers than this crew of clowns put in place by that multi-arrested criminal, Bush.

WASHINGTON, May 30 — The Bush administration, seeking to enlist Russian support for a United Nations Security Council resolution on Iran, has agreed to language ruling out the immediate threat of military force, American and European officials said Tuesday.

The American agreement has improved the chances that the Russians will go along with the resolution, European diplomats said.

The resolution is to call on Iran to suspend various nuclear activities that are viewed in the West as part of a clandestine weapons program, but that Iran maintains are peaceful in nature.

President Bush called President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia, President Jacques Chirac of France and Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany to press for agreement on a Security Council resolution demanding that Iran stop enriching uranium or face possible punitive action.

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice's office announced that Ms. Rice would fly to Vienna on Wednesday for more talks on Iran with top Russian, Chinese and European envoys. The American goal is to get an agreement on a Security Council resolution this week, for possible approval in June.

Also being negotiated are a package of benefits in nuclear energy, economic activities and security to be offered Iran if it cooperates in ending its nuclear activities. The Europeans are to offer this package with American support, but the Bush administration has quietly expressed misgivings about some of its possible elements.

"I think that we could safely say at this point that we feel like we're in good shape heading into Vienna," Sean McCormack, the State Department spokesman, said at a department briefing.

Instead of bombing Iran, we are now going to use economic warfare. Of course, that will mean 100% defeat since the Iranians will be retaliating with the oil weapon and we will do what? Print oodles of dollars and demand the Chinese raise the value of the yuan so they can buy more Iranian oil, cheaper?

WASHINGTON, May 30 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President George W. Bush on Tuesday nominated Henry M. Paulson Jr. to replace John Snow as Treasury Secretary.

The nomination was made after Snow announced his resignation on the same day.

"He has a lifetime of business experience ... and an ability to explain economic issues in clear terms," Bush said of Paulson in a Rose Garden announcement.

Paulson has been chairman of Goldman Sachs, one of the biggest investment banks in the United States, for about eight years.

Americans are 42 percent more likely than Canadians to have diabetes, 32 percent more likely to have high blood pressure, and 12 percent more likely to have arthritis, Harvard Medical School researchers found. That is according to a survey in which American and Canadian adults were asked over the telephone about their health.

The study comes less than a month after other researchers reported that middle-aged, white Americans are much sicker than their counterparts in England.

"We're really falling behind other nations," said Dr. Steffie Woolhandler, a co-author of the Canadian study.

NEW YORK - Consumer confidence soured in May, as Americans fretted about jobs and the overall economy, a private research group said Tuesday.

The Conference Board said its consumer confidence index fell to 103.2, down from the revised 109.8 in April. Still, May's reading was better than the 100.9 expected by analysts.

The decline stalled a rebound seen since November in the aftermath of last year's Gulf of Mexico hurricanes, except for a sharp dip in February when short-lived pessimism over the job market hurt consumer sentiment.

"Consumer confidence, which reached a four-year high in April, lost ground in May," said Lynn Franco, director of the New York-based Conference Board Consumer Research Center. "Apprehension about the short-term outlook for the economy, the labor market and consumers' earning potential has driven the Expectations Index down to levels not seen since the aftermath of the hurricanes last summer."

With savings in negative territory, the entire edifice of consumer happiness is due entirely to the availability of easy credit. Interest rates don't impact on this, consumers happily spend away even when paying outrageous rates over 21%! This story has a bad ending when available easy credit fades.

The test is set by the Association for the Promotion of Traditional Craft Industries, an offshoot of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. Candidates are tested on their practical skills as well as general knowledge related to traditional crafts, and they are required to score more than 70 percent in each category to pass.

The average age of Uetsu Shinafu makers is around 70. "The last time most of these people took a written test was 40 or 50 years ago, and they certainly aren't anxious to take one now," said Igarashi.

And the questions are pretty tough, too. For example: In which prefecture is the Shosoin (the storehouse at Nara's Todaiji temple which contains cultural and historical artifacts)? Name an example of a traditional craft from the Muromachi Period (1338-1573). Which government ministry has jurisdiction over matters that concern traditional craft? It's hardly surprising that, even in the big-name traditional craft centers, only a handful of people have passed.

This program is supposed to preserve ancient handicrafts and it helps the elderly pass on old fashioned skills only the program is run by the same people who runs the schools so they practice their ancient art of creating tricky tests as if this is all about final exams. Of course, this kills the entire program but who cares?

The bureaucracy must triumph.

WASHINGTON, May 29 — The top American commander in Iraq has decided to move reserve troops now deployed in Kuwait into the volatile Anbar Province in western Iraq to help quell a rise in insurgent attacks there, two American officials said Monday.

Although some soldiers from the 3,500-member brigade in Kuwait have moved into Iraq in recent months, Gen. George W. Casey Jr. has decided to send in the remainder of the unit after consultations with Iraqi officials in recent days, the officials said.

The confirmation that the number of American forces in Iraq would grow came on a day of soaring violence in Baghdad. Two Britons working as members of a CBS News television crew were killed on Monday and an American correspondent for the network was critically wounded when a military patrol they were accompanying was hit by a roadside bomb.

When are the Bush twins and the Cheney duo going to Iraq to fight? One of Cheney's daughters is in charge of freeing the women in Afghanistan and Iraq and we all know what a total, utter, screaming failure that has been!

The military has a one way mind. This is why it was so laughably easy for wily bin Laden to lure us into a cul de sac. Once in, we can't get out. My ox team was that way. They would walk into something like the feed room and then would be too uneasy about stepping backwards to get out again. I would have to touch their legs and say, "Back, back, step back, boys."

So for the Pentagon: Back, back, step back, you morons.

&hearts World's Biggest Embassy Irritates Iraqis So Much They Want To Blow It Up

Chicago Tribune: Though the site is an open secret, U.S. Embassy officials, currently based in Hussein's former Republican Palace, are forbidden to discuss it.

The few details available are contained in a Senate Foreign Relations Committee report. Scheduled for completion in June 2007, the 104-acre embassy compound, roughly the size of the Vatican, will resemble (HAHAHA) a mini-state, entirely independent from the outside world. It will generate its own power, pump its own sewage and draw its own water.

Within the compound there will be six buildings containing 619 apartments for diplomats, a barrack for Marine guards, separate residences for the ambassador and his deputy, a gym, a swimming pool, a club, a food court, a beauty salon, a vehicle workshop and a warehouse. There is also, the report noted, an emergency exit.

The Senate report marveled at the meticulous planning.

"Most major construction projects undertaken in Iraq since 2003 have not met these standards," it said. "No large-scale U.S.-funded construction program in Iraq has yet met its schedule or budget," the report added, noting that this one is on schedule and within budget.

Iraqis also are marveling at the scale of the project and the rapid rate at which it is starting to rise above the walls of the Green Zone, which is off-limits to most Iraqis.

"Why are they only building this building?" asked Abdul Kareem al-Khiat, sales manager of the 14-story Babylon Hotel, whose riverside rooms have panoramic views of the construction site. "All the Iraqis are asking this question."

"The army has control of the city. We have tanks in the city for the first time," he said. "We have 2,000 troops at key places. Everything is calm."

We boasted about how the Afghanis fought Russia until the government there collapsed. We thought we were very clever, arming Islamic fighters like bin Laden's group. History is a bitch. And our rulers are bastards.

Two years after the United States helped disrupt a notorious nuclear smuggling ring, the Bush administration has hobbled a Swiss effort to prosecute three of the alleged leaders by failing to share critical information, an American nuclear expert and Swiss law enforcement officials said yesterday.

Switzerland's federal prosecutor made at least four separate appeals for U.S. help over the past year, asking for access to documents and other evidence linked to the nuclear black market run by the Pakistani scientist Abdul Qadeer Khan. In that time, the Swiss have received no assistance, or even a reply, a spokesman for the prosecutor said.

NUAMAN, West Bank -- For generations, first in caves hollowed from hillsides, then shepherds' tents and simple stone houses, the Shawarwa and Darawi families thrived here amid pine windbreaks, olive orchards and flocks of sheep. On a hill of their own, they worked, married and raised children.

Jamal Darawi was born here in a weathered house in June 1967, the same month Israel triumphed in the Middle East war. In the conflict, Israel's army seized East Jerusalem and the West Bank from Jordan. Soon, the Israeli government drew a larger municipal boundary around Jerusalem, annexing the lands to the Jewish state, including Darawi's home.

Germany is the world's biggest user of wind power, and it has ambitious plans to build even more wind turbines.

It has decided that generating nuclear power is not the way forward, and it has decided eventually to close all the country's existing nuclear power stations.

The country's great hope for is for a future of green energy, and in particular wind power.

However, some observers are now questioning whether all the investment in wind power makes economic sense.

Our culture is addicted to giganticism. Every house, and I mean every house, should have both wind and sun systems. Automatically. No question. We will still need larger systems but they would be the back up, not the primary system.

Energy, when it travels, loses energy. The further it travels, the more loss there is. So if a system is right in the very house it is servicing, the loss is very little. Not to mention the gigantic bonus that one owns one's own energy! What is preventing this from being launched?

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico - The number of Guantanamo Bay detainees participating in a hunger strike has ballooned from three to around 75, the U.S. military said Monday, revealing growing defiance among prisoners held for up to 4 1/2 years with no end in sight.

Navy Cmdr. Robert Durand called the hunger strike at the U.S. naval base in southeastern Cuba an "attention-getting" tactic to step up pressure for the inmates' release and said it might be related to a May 18 clash between detainees and guards that injured six prisoners.

"The hunger strike technique is consistent with al-Qaida practice and reflects detainee attempts to elicit media attention to bring international pressure on the United States to release them back to the battlefield," Durand said from Guantanamo Bay.

New recruits are popping up like gypsy moths on trees here in New York. They are caused by our military's stupid tactics. Even Condi Rice says the tactics are a thousand errors.

NEW YORK - A CBS News cameraman and soundman were killed and a correspondent was seriously injured Monday after their U.S. military convoy was struck by a roadside bomb in Iraq, the network said.

Veteran cameraman Paul Douglas, 48, and soundman James Brolan, 42, were killed, said Kelli Edwards, a CBS News spokeswoman. Correspondent Kimberly Dozier, 39, was in critical condition at a U.S. military hospital in Baghdad after undergoing surgery.

CBS did not release any additional information about her injuries but said doctors were cautiously optimistic about her prognosis.

"Our deepest sympathy goes out to the families of Paul and James, and we are hoping and praying for a complete recovery by Kimberly," CBS News President Sean McManus said in a statement.

Woodruff has disappeared nearly totally. We don't know if he is brain dead or is walking around. Now we have more badly mangled or dead reporters. When we illegally invaded Iraq, the military thought it was very funny, killing reporters repeatedly. We killed a lot of them. DOHA: The Taliban have regained control of all southwestern provinces of Afghanistan, Al Jazeera television quoted the group commander, Mullah Dadullah, as saying.

In his first interview with Al Jazeera since reports of his arrest spread across the world last week, the Taliban leader threatened to attack North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) troops deployed in the south of the country, the channel reported.

Dadullah accused the United States of fighting Islam and Muslims. He condemned the US attack on civilians in southern Afghanistan and said that Washington viewed all Afghans as its enemies and therefore killed civilians.

He held Afghan President Hamid Karzai responsible for the killings of civilians, saying that Karzai wanted foreign troops to stay in the country. He said that the Taliban had adopted a new war strategy. He said that his appearance on the television would disappoint the US and foreign and Afghan troops who had aired news of his arrest.

WASHINGTON The first science test administered in five years across the United States shows that achievement among high school seniors has declined across the past decade, even as scores in science rose among fourth-graders and held steady among eighth-graders, the U.S. Department of Education has reported.
The falling average science test scores among high school students, announced Wednesday, appeared certain to increase anxiety about American academic competitiveness and to add new urgency to calls from President George W. Bush, governors and philanthropists like Bill Gates for an overhaul of American high schools.
The drop in science proficiency appeared to reflect a broader trend in which some academic gains made in elementary grades and middle school have been seen to fade during the high school years. The science results come from the National Assessment of Educational Progress, a comprehensive examination administered in early 2005 by the Department of Education to more than 300,000 students in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and on U.S. military bases around the world.

Children don't need science all that much in the beginning, they need to learn how to use basic logic. And memorize various bits of information. Telling them about the ecosystem and where they fit in it is great.

But high school? This is where one has to learn the deeper technical matters, memorize scientific language, too bad nearly no one learns Greek or Latin. Many years ago, if one wanted to be a scientist, these two languages were required. Just for example.

Oh well. In the future, the language will be Chinese. Too bad we gave up and let everyone else sprint ahead of us.

PALOUSE, Wash. -- Pity the poor robin that latches onto one of these worms.

A yard long and as big around as a man's pinkie finger, the giant Palouse earthworm is albino-pale, can burrow 15 feet deep and smells like a lily.

The recent discovery of one of the scarce giants has energized entomologists and soil scientists, who fear it may be near extinction.

"It was very exciting. Just to find something we thought, perhaps, was gone is a great thing," University of Idaho soils scientist Jodi Johnson-Maynard said.

The native giant earthworms have been found by scientists only four times since the 1970s. None had been seen since the 1980s until Idaho graduate student Yaniria Sanchez-de Leon dug one up while studying other earthworm species in May 2005.

In Norse legends, the giants asked Thor to pick up the cat sleeping next to the fire. He struggled to lift even the stomach of the cat, we all know how cats can dig in their claws and hang grimly on to something when they don't want to be moved!

It turned out to be the giant worm that encircled the earth! Well, the moral of this tale is, be careful digging up worms. You might end up with Oroboros.

By definition, federal borrowing eventually results in a transfer of income from American taxpayers, whose taxes go to pay the interest on the debt, to the investors who hold the Treasury bonds. As long as the bonds are owned by Americans, the transfer is simply from one group of citizens to another. Bond holders may get richer, while taxpayers who don't own bonds get poorer, which could add to troubling disparities in personal wealth. But shuffling the income between the two groups doesn't reduce America's overall wealth.

Today, however, 43 percent of the United States' publicly held debt of $4.8 trillion is held abroad, mainly by central banks in Japan, China and Britain and by offshore hedge funds. That's up from a 30 percent share in 2001, an extraordinary increase. Indeed, during the Bush years, 73 percent of new government borrowing has been from abroad.

Paying the interest on the foreign-owned portion of the debt will be a burden on future Americans, draining their wallets and siphoning off the nation's wealth.

The rising violence in many super-tiny Oceanic countries is way below the radar, below Dafur even! MEXICO CITY (AP) -- Weather forecasters lifted coastal warnings for Aletta, the first tropical storm of the eastern Pacific season, after the storm moved farther out to sea.

Forecasters had issued a tropical storm warning from Punta Maldonado northwest to Zihuatanejo, warning that Aletta could bring heavy rainfall, flash floods and mudslides to the mountainous coast.

Aletta was located about 195 kilometers (120 miles) south of the Pacific beach resort of Zihuatanejo.

The gypsy moths eating my entire forest are probably not impressed by this news. I am depressed by it, myself. Anyone who thinks global warming means fun in the sun is in for a very nasty learning experience.

KABUL, Afghanistan - A deadly traffic accident Monday involving U.S. troops sparked the worst riot in the Afghan capital since the fall of the Taliban regime, with hundreds of protesters looting shops and shouting "Death to America!" At least five people were killed and 60 injured, an official said.

Hundreds of Afghan army troops and NATO peacekeepers in tanks deployed around the city, as chanting protesters marched on the presidential palace and rioters smashed police guard boxes and set fire to police cars.

Three hours after the 9/11 attacks, Rumsfeld and Cheney were plotting their war against Iraq. They then were forced to switch tracks and invade Afghanistan. All Americans were fired up to do this. First, Bush went to the UN and promised the Palestinians their own state before getting permission to attack Afghanistan.

This promise was broken instantly by Israel and we didn't go after bin Laden but, instead, took sides in the civil war in Afghanistan, siding with drug dealing warlords. When we took over Kabul, we promised to rebuild the country and win the hearts and minds.

We failed. Bin Laden laughs in the shadows.

US Marines could face the death penalty after one of their number took horrific photographs of a massacre in Iraq on his mobile phone, The Independent on Sunday has learned.

The photographs, seized by the US Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS), show many victims shot at close range in the head and chest, execution-style, according to sources who have seen them. One image shows a mother and young child bent over on the floor as if in prayer. Both have been shot dead.

Military training deliberately debases the soldiers and one tool used is to have them bond as if they are a family or better still, lovers. This is the reason why the military is terrified of gays---they are trying desperately to make soldiers think like gay lovers without the sex.

So when attacked, they can easily go out of control and kill innocent civilians. It is of interest to me that this counterfit male bonding love is translated into killing women and children, even babies. Unlike natural gay males who often love their mothers and make excellent uncles, this training is like a parasite. It is alien to the host carrying it and is hostile to the host body's survival (they can't breed!) is deadly for the host as well as everyone in contact with the host carrying the parasite.

BEIJING, May 27 (Xinhua) -- China's oil supply is facing risks, which need to be solved mainly through domestic efforts, an oil expert said.

Zhu Jianjun, a researcher with China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), China's largest oil producer, said at a forum on China's energy strategy recently that it is not oil shortage but the uneven distribution of oil resources that caused instability in the world oil market.

Soaring oil price is the first risk, Zhu said.

Rapid growth of the world economy has led to a sharp rise of oil consumption in recent years. Conflicts and financial speculation also help to drive oil price higher. Depreciation of the U.S. dollar is another factor for the oil price hikes, he said.

According to statistics, China spent 43 billion US dollars importing oil in 2004 and the figure rose to over 50 billion US dollars in 2005.

This is another warning directed at the USA. It won't appear in the news here. Americans think they have a god-given right to suck down 25% of the world's oil while being only 6% of the world's population. Our lectures to China about using oil is beginning to rankle there. After all, the data should be reversed with China using 25% and us using only 6%. This would mean America would have to cease importing most of our oil which I think is a good idea, actually.

It would make us much stronger.

A pair of bombs ripped through central Baghdad just after dawn Sunday, killing three people and injuring 21, police said.

Geeze, yet another helicopter shot down and it rates no headlines. We are at the critical 2,500 dead and 30,000 permanently disabled soldiers! And the country spirals downwards.

"If you had a traffic ticket and you paid it, you're not forever a speeder, are you?" White House Press Secretary Tony Snow said in response to questions from The Examiner.

"So the fact is, you have paid your debt to society," he added. "And we have come up with a way to make sure that the debt to society gets paid. Then you move forward."

The "traffic ticket" analogy raised eyebrows on Capitol Hill, where many House Republicans regard illegal immigration as a grave crime.

Bush and Cheney both have long arrest records since they drove wildly about while drunk or stoned on drugs. So to them, illegal behavior is normal especially now that they are committing much graver crimes.

The rulers need cheap, illegal labor because it is cheap.

As many as half of the roughly 5,000 private firefighters based in the Pacific Northwest and contracted by state and federal governments to fight forest fires are immigrants, mostly from Mexico. And an untold number of them are working here illegally.

Here is a typical example. Up until the GOP took over America and began looting it, fire fighting was a government function. And to be hired, one had to prove one was an American and not an illegal alien sneaking across the borders. Now, with private contractors bidding against each other, the ones hiring only illegal aliens who ask for little pay and no benefits can outbid ones hiring Americans.

Then they turn around and claim, Americans don't want these jobs!

WASHINGTON - Deserts in the American Southwest and around the globe are creeping toward heavily populated areas as the jet streams shift, researchers reported Thursday.

The result: Areas already stressed by drought may get even drier.

Satellite measurements made from 1979 to 2005 show that the atmosphere in the subtropical regions both north and south of the equator is heating up. As the atmosphere warms, it bulges out at the altitudes where the northern and southern jet streams slip past like swift and massive rivers of air. That bulging has pushed both jet streams about 70 miles closer to the Earth's poles.

This is another sign of global warming. The signs are accumulating to such a degree even the Mr. Magoos driving America off the cliff can't ignore them anymore. Wait!

They are still attacking Al Gore, now for his latest attempt at educating us about pollution and global warming.

Species that migrate thousands of miles from Africa to the UK have been the worst hit over the last 30 years.

The researchers say the cause of the decline remains a "mystery", but could be linked to climate change, habitat destruction or pesticide use.

Writing in the journal Biological Conservation, they warn the losses may indicate wider environmental damage.

The canary in the mine moment. Birds are very important to the balance of nature. We have put them under assault on nearly every front this last 100 years. Now, many species--especially the migratory song birds and meadowland birds with colorful feathers---are now in severe decline. I notice it here, on my mountainside, for I bird watch for fun.

BANTUL, Indonesia - The death toll from a 6.3-magnitude earthquake in Indonesia rose by more than 800 Monday to 5,137, according to the government. Meanwhile, emergency aid began arriving, but officials said the supplies were not reaching survivors quickly enough.

The government's Social Affairs Ministry said the revised death toll included previously uncounted bodies buried in mass graves immediately after the quake.

An aid plane chartered by the U.N. children's agency arrived in the city of Solo, about three hours from the hardest-hit district of Bantul on Java island. It was loaded with water, tents, stoves and cooking gear.

And the islands north of New Zealand just had a 6.7 earthquake. The earth shudders still, more active than usual after the Great Boxing Day Quake. If this is a prelude to another volcano pulverizing itself, the people living within 200 miles of Merapi should think of evacuating the entire area. Indonesia is the most dangerous place to live on earth and is one of the most heavily populated with a high birth rate.

An African Union peacekeeper in Sudan's Darfur region has been killed in an ambush by unknown men, the UN says.
The UN said the group was armed with rocket-propelled grenades and AK-47 guns. Another peacekeeper was critically wounded, the UN said.

Violence has continued in Darfur despite a peace deal signed earlier this month.

More than two million people have fled their homes and some 200,000 killed in the three-year conflict in Darfur.

Unlike in the Holy Land which is a classic invasion seeking to displace the native populations by killing them or herding them into ghettos, Dafur is typical intertribal warfare waged with modern small arms weapons. This is similar to the chaos in Afghanistan and the international response is just as pathetic.

Now that the pro-enslave Palestine people finally forced the world to act in Dafur, all this did was absolutely nothing. And we can't fix it, either, at least, not easily. We can do something about Palestine but we won't. And so it goes, expect more propaganda screaming about Dafur while the same parties yell at us to shut up about Palestine.

&hearts Mt.Everest Climber Left For Dead Found Alive By Rescuers

SYDNEY, Australia (Reuters) -- An Australian mountaineer left for dead near the summit of Mt. Everest has been found alive after spending a night out on the world's highest mountain, but remains severely ill with frostbite and altitude sickness.

Lincoln Hall, 50, was initially reported to have died of cerebral edema, or swelling of the brain, as he descended the mountain, according to expedition leader Alexander Abramov, on internet site www.mounteverest.net.

However, climbers ascending the next day discovered Hall still alive near the peak and launched an immediate rescue operation.

Hall's survival comes a week after British climber David Sharp died after getting into difficulties on his descent from the 8,850 metre (29,035 foot) summit. Several groups of climbers passed Sharp but did not stop to help.

I grew up climbing mountains, observatories tend to be on mountains. I know I am no where near as good condition as when I was 15 years old. Age matters, a lot. I used to do search and rescue. People deliberately putting themselves into danger for thrills ticks me off if more serious people have to risk their necks saving reckless adventurers.

BAGHDAD - Basra in the south of Iraq is beginning to splinter under increasing violence and sectarian divisions. Smuggling of oil on a large scale coupled with increasing violence and the lack of basic services like water and electricity has caused increasing tensions in the city, 570km south of Baghdad. More than 100 civilians have been killed in Basra so far this month.

Residents are pointing the finger at the governor and the British military, which occupies the city.

Before the recent spate of killings, Basra had a reputation as one of the most peaceful cities in occupied Iraq. The British military -- whose 8,000 soldiers in Iraq control Basra -- were considered by many to be more humane than their American counterparts.

But when thousands of residents took to the streets earlier this month to protest high unemployment and corruption in the governor's office, the British attacked the demonstrators with helicopters. Fighters responded.

Unlike the Saudi youth, the young in Iraq know how to "bring it on." They are bringing hell onto the entire place and we have no way of stopping them now.

Mr. Gonzales was joined in raising the possibility of resignation by the deputy attorney general, Paul J. McNulty, the officials said. Mr. Gonzales and Mr. McNulty told associates that they had an obligation to protect evidence in a criminal case and would be unwilling to carry out any White House order to return the material to Congress.

The potential showdown was averted Thursday when President Bush ordered the evidence to be sealed for 45 days to give Congress and the Justice Department a chance to work out a deal.

The evidence was seized by Federal Bureau of Investigation agents last Saturday night in a search of the office of Representative William J. Jefferson, Democrat of Louisiana. The search set off an uproar of protest by House leaders in both parties, who said the intrusion by an executive branch agency into a Congressional office violated the Constitution's separation of powers doctrine. They demanded that the Justice Department return the evidence.

The problem with the FBI baiting politicians is it is political. Namely, they can target Democrats all the time because they have to dirty the political waters thanks to the Abramoff scandals which is 100% Republican. The politicization of the FBI and CIA always shoots up under Republicans who can't resist using these powerful tools to consolidate their political dominance. Ditto the IRS. Nixon did this too.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Religious broadcaster Pat Robertson says he has leg-pressed 2,000 pounds, but some say he'd be in a pretty tough spot if he tried.

The "700 Club" host's feat of strength is recounted on the Web site of his Christian Broadcasting Network, in a posting headlined "How Pat Robertson Leg Pressed 2,000 Pounds."

According to the CBN Web site, Robertson worked his way up to lifting a ton with the help of his physician, who is not named. The posting does not say when the lift occurred, but a CBN spokeswoman released photos to The Associated Press that she said showed Robertson lifting 2,000 pounds in 2003, when Robertson was 73. He is now 76.

The Web posting said two men loaded the leg-press machine with 2,000 pounds "and then let it down on Mr. Robertson, who pushed it up one rep and let it go back down again." The Web site said several people witnessed the event, and shows video of Robertson leg-pressing what appears to be 1,000 pounds.

Let's hope he doesn't prove his sexual prowess, too. Or his mental capacity.

WASHINGTON - Military investigators probing the deaths last November of about two dozen Iraqi civilians have evidence that points toward unprovoked murders by Marines, a senior defense official said Friday.

The Marine Corps initially reported 15 deaths and said they were caused by a roadside bomb and an ensuing firefight with insurgents. A separate investigation is aimed at determining if Marines lied to cover up the events, which included the deaths of women and children.

If confirmed as unjustified killings, the episode could be the most serious case of criminal misconduct by U.S. troops during three years of combat in Iraq. Until now the most infamous occurrence was the Abu Ghraib prisoner abuse involving Army soldiers, which came to light in April 2004 and which President Bush said Thursday he considered to be the worst U.S. mistake of the entire war.

The defense official discussed the matter Friday only on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to talk publicly about the investigation. He said the evidence found thus far strongly indicated the killings in the insurgent-plagued city of Haditha in the western province of Anbar were unjustified. He cautioned that the probe was not finished.

Every time our out of control military kills people in cold blood the military finds some way of patting them on the wrist and then we tell our victims to shut up and go away. Like the time hot dogging pilots killed skiers, even when we kill allies or rape Japanese school girls, we get all surly and snappy.

Then we wonder why people don't like us. Sort of like Cheney. Shoot first and demand the victim apologize.

RENO, Nev. - Over the years, families have used religious symbols such as the Jewish Star of David, the Christian cross and the Islamic crescent and star to honor their loved ones on headstones and markers. mFor Sgt. Patrick Stewart's family, the symbol of choice was also from his religion: the Wiccan pentacle.

But of all the symbols and faiths recognized by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Wicca and its emblem — a circle around a five-pointed star — are not among them.

The department is reviewing a request to include the symbol, but when a decision will come is unclear.

That has angered many. The state's top veterans official, Tim Tetz, said he was "diligently pursuing" the matter with Gov. Kenny Guinn, Sen. Harry Reid (news, bio, voting record), D-Nev., and Rep. Jim Gibbons, R-Nev.

"Sergeant Stewart and his family deserve recognition for their contributions to our country," said Tetz, executive director of the Nevada Office of Veterans Services.

ZHENGZHOU, May 26 (Xinhua) -- Chinese SF (science fiction) fans are seeking for development of domestic works as attractive as "Star Wars" and the "Matrix" series while the SF writers in China have become unproductive in providing readers with SF masterpieces.

Over the past 20 years, while more and more Chinese have been fascinated by Western SF movies, including the "Star Wars" and the "Matrix" series, over 30 kinds of Chinese SF periodicals have shrank into only one "SF World", a monthly Chinese magazine with a circulation of over 500,000.

About 100 years ago, Lu Xun, one of the greatest Chinese modern writers, said after completing the translation of Jules Gabriel Verne's From the Earth to the Moon, "To guide China's development, science fiction should be the starter." However, even now most people don't quite understand Lu's idea, and it is even more difficult to find a brilliant Chinese SF article.

In 1980s, China printed over 30 kinds of SF magazines and newspapers, with hundreds of original SF and popular science articles meeting public eyes every year.

But today, the SF World is the only survivor magazine across the country. Each Chinese SF work may only have 20,000 copies printed for the SF fans. On the contrary, the United States prints148 SF periodicals, and publishes 2,000 kinds of SF books every year, some of which boast six-digit circulations.

Jiang Xiaoyuan, Dean of Science History Department of Shanghai Jiaotong University, believes fantasy and imagination are valuable, because the 80-day journey around the globe, the ascent to the moon and the invention of submarines have all come out of Jules Gabriel Verne's novels into reality.

Now, China only has less than 100 professional SF writers, only a dozen of which have some fame. On the other hand, there are over1,000 state-appointed science academicians, with Dr. Pan Jiazheng being the only one to write SF articles in his free time.

BEIJING, May 26 (Xinhua) -- China is set to manufacture its first home-made ARJ21-700 regional jet, sources with the China Aviation Industry Corporation I (AVIC I) have said.

The corporation said the designing draft and techniques of the jet have won approval from the experts and the key technical difficulties have been resolved after testifying.

Up to now, the jet's preliminary designing is about to close and most of its components are ready for the jet's installing.

The corporation said here Friday that the jet's systems and parts, provided by different suppliers, have get through preliminary joint design assessment. Some systems and parts will be available for installing in the third quarter of 2006.

The ARJ21 program was formally approved in 2002. The jet is expected to go into batch production in 2009. Currently, 40 orders for the jet have been received.

WELLINGTON, New Zealand - Mount Everest pioneer Sir Edmund Hillary said Wednesday he was shocked that dozens of climbers left a British mountaineer to die during their own attempts on the world's tallest peak.

David Sharp, 34, died apparently of oxygen deficiency while descending from the summit during a solo climb last week.

More than 40 climbers are thought to have seen him as he lay dying, and almost all continued to the summit without offering assistance.

"Human life is far more important than just getting to the top of a mountain," Hillary was quoted as saying in an interview with New Zealand Press Association.

Jesus would have told a parable about this. Something about how the Samaritan mountain climber paused to help a stranger.

PRIME Minister Tony Blair said he does not want to start a conflict with Iran as Britain's armed forces already have enough problems to handle.

But in an interview released today by his office, Mr Blair warned that if Iran deliberately breached its obligations on its nuclear program, then the international community would have to take action through the United Nations.
However, the stand-off could be easily resolved if Iran played by the rules, Mr Blair told the Arab satellite television channel Aljazeera yesterday.

He also said the continuing violence in Iraq was not the fault of the multinational forces in the war-shattered country. Britain has 7200 troops in Iraq and 3000 in Afghanistan.

"Nobody is targeting Iran," Mr Blair said.

If no one is targetting Iran why can't the Bush/Blair trouble twins offer diplomatic assurances and hard proof they don't intend to attack Iran?

A Pastor has come forward to blow the whistle on a nationwide FEMA program which is training Pastors and other religious representatives to become secret police enforcers who teach their congregations to "obey the government" in preparation for a declaration of martial law, property and firearm seizures, and forced relocation.

In March of this year the Pastor, who we shall refer to as Pastor Revere, was invited to attend a meeting of his local FEMA chapter which circulated around preparedness for a potential bio-terrorist attack, any natural disaster or a nationally declared emergency.

The FEMA directors told the Pastors that attended that it was their job to help implement FEMA and Homeland Security directives in anticipation of any of these eventualities. The first directive was for Pastors to preach to their congregations Romans 13, the often taken out of context bible passage that was used by Hitler to hoodwink Christians into supporting him, in order to teach them to "obey the government" when martial law is declared.

It was related to the Pastors that quarantines, martial law and forced relocation were a problem for state authorities when enforcing federal mandates due to the "cowboy mentality" of citizens standing up for their property and second amendment rights as well as farmers defending their crops and livestock from seizure. It was stressed that the Pastors needed to preach subservience to the authorities ahead of time in preparation for the round-ups and to make it clear to the congregation that "this is for their own good."

This sounds quite believable to me. It is fortunate that FEMA has been handed over to incompetent playboys and brain dead GOPher political operatives. So it won't work. The only thing saving us from a Soviet-style police state is the sheer stupid incompetence of all these preening ladies and pretty boys chosen to run things.

SACRAMENTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 22, 2006--California based ForeclosureS.com, a real estate investment advisory firm and nationwide foreclosure lists publisher, reported today that 2006 foreclosure activity in the Northeast is up sharply from 2005 levels.

"In Massachusetts," said ForeclosureS.com president Alexis McGee, "we saw 1551 new foreclosure filings in April 2006. As of May 13, foreclosure filings were up 35% from the same period in 2005."

"According to our research, foreclosure activity in New Jersey reached a level of 4,425 filings in the first quarter of 2006 as opposed to just 459 in the same quarter in 2005. That's an almost ten fold increase," warned Ms. McGee. She added that she expected the situation to get worse through the rest of 2006 and into 2007.

Ms. McGee expressed concern that homeowners were still using their houses as ATM machines. She continued, "Freddie Mac just reported that 88% percent of the loans they purchased in the first quarter of 2006 were cash-out refinances. With the real estate markets going flat, the refinance resource will dry up. And with interest rates continuing to rise, payments on so-called exotic adjustable loans would become unaffordable for many households."

The most likely base for the system is Poland, followed by the Czech Republic, officials said. Always, Poland is Russia's front door and this has been a tragic historical point. And Russia will apply their economic tools to fix this in the end. Not to mention, war. I do wish people running our ship of state read history.

SAN DIEGO — His former top aide is under indictment in the CIA leak probe. His poll ratings fall somewhere between bad and atrocious. Still, Dick Cheney can pack in the faithful like few others in the Republican Party.

And so the vice president came to California on Monday and Tuesday for a series of fundraisers aimed at bucking up three GOP House candidates facing unexpectedly tough fights in this political season of scandal. Democrats were delighted.

Touching down in Sacramento, Stockton and San Diego, Cheney flew as far below the figurative radar as Air Force Two would allow. His appearances were either closed to the media and public, or conducted in lightning-strike fashion.

On Monday night in Stockton, at the Bob Hope Theatre, Cheney materialized from behind a dark curtain, then swiftly disappeared after delivering 15 minutes of workmanlike remarks on behalf of Rep. Richard W. Pombo of Tracy.

On Tuesday in San Diego, Cheney ducked in and out of a Brian Bilbray fundraising lunch without ever sitting down, much less eating.

But the vice president's furtive movements didn't stop protesters from gathering outside each appearance, or keep the state Democratic Party from issuing a series of snarky bulletins tracking Cheney's "Culture of Corruption Tour."

Our political system reeks of corruption. Cheney is at the core of this corruption. For the second (sic) in command running America to be so unpopular he has to hide himself in public shows how disconnected from the populace our bubble boys are. Their bubble is money and all they do is serve their fellow upper income co-conspiritors who are rapidly bankrupting America.

Science Daily: Studies have shown that global climate change can set-off positive feedback loops in nature which amplify warming and cooling trends. Now, researchers with the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab) and the University of California at Berkeley have been able to quantify the feedback implied by past increases in natural carbon dioxide and methane gas levels. Their results point to global temperatures at the end of this century that may be significantly higher than current climate models are predicting.

The world's glaciers are shrinking as a result of rising temperatures and will eventually cause sea-levels to swell. Studies have shown that global warming triggers natural feedback loops that can amplify the warming's magnitude. Using as a source the Vostok ice core, which provides information about glacial-interglacial cycles over hundreds of thousands of years, the researchers were able to estimate the amounts of carbon dioxide and methane, two of the principal greenhouse gases, that were released into the atmosphere in response to past global warming trends. Combining their estimates with standard climate model assumptions, they calculated how much these rising concentration levels caused global temperatures to climb, further increasing carbon dioxide and methane emissions, and so on.

MOUNT MERAPI, Indonesia - Mount Merapi spit out lava and a spectacular series of hot clouds Tuesday, as Indonesian government observers warned that the volcano remained a danger to villagers living on its slopes.

One of the eruptions sent debris falling two miles down the mountain, said Safari Dwiyono, a vulcanologist at a monitoring post in the densely populated province of Central Java.

Residents in the danger zone had all been evacuated, he said, and there were no immediate reports of injuries.

Thousands of people from villages farther down the 9,800-foot volcano, however, have returned home in recent days to tend crops, milk cows and feed livestock — many complaining of boredom in government-run shelters.

There are two candidates for mega-eruptions: the Indonesian chain or Yellowstone Park. The history of evolution is punctuated by shattering volcanic events. It is possible that global warming plus a major eruption event can be quite catastrophic for life forms.

DETROIT - Aiming to capitalize on consumer angst about the high cost of gasoline, General Motors Corp. on Tuesday said it would cap pump prices at $1.99 for customers in California and Florida who buy certain vehicles by July 5.

One hitch to the promotion is that customers must also agree to enroll in the OnStar vehicle diagnostic service, which is free for the first year but after that will cost $16.95 a month. The other is that many of the eligible vehicles are serious gas guzzlers.

The offer is good for 2006 and 2007 model year vehicles. In California, eligible vehicles are the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban sport utility vehicles and Impala and Monte Carlo sedans; the GMC Yukon and Yukon XL SUVs; the Hummer H2 and H3 SUVs; the Cadillac SRX SUV; and the Pontiac Grand Prix and Buick LaCrosse sedans. In Florida, eligible vehicles are the Impala, Monte Carlo, Grand Prix and LaCrosse.

This is totally insane. These stupid things are polluting the planet, endangering other drivers, they are bad on every possible level. They should be paying extra for gas! Instead, just like on the eve of the latest oil "crisis", Congress passed bills giving giant tax breaks to buyers of gas guzzlers. BEIJING (Reuters) - The Chinese media is using fewer characters and to understand 90 percent of the content in publications you need only to know about 900 of the thousands of pictographs that make up the script, state media said on Tuesday.

The findings of a survey conducted by the education ministry and language commission were based on 900 million characters used in more than 8.9 million files chosen from newspapers, magazines, the Internet and television, the Xinhua news agency said.

It did not give an explanation for the survey results.

China began simplifying its script after the Communist revolution in 1949, aiming to improve illiteracy from an estimated 80 percent.

All written languages vacillate between becoming simpler then becoming more complicated. Chinese evolved into a very elegant but very difficult to use written language because of civil service tests which selected the most literate who then would write stuff to each other and this upped the ante for a five hundred years.

With the revolution, it swung the other way and then started to creep back into complication again until the revolution of the popular press and the internet in particular. Now, everyone types out stuff and this means one uses a limited keyboard and short cuts are taken because speed matters and so it will become streamlined via popular use. All languages depend on popular use to exist and this is why they morph their shape constantly.

The earliest signs of dementia may not involve a decline in mental functions after all.

Instead, they're probably physical — a slowed gait, a failing sense of balance and a weakened handgrip, Seattle researchers have found.

In fact, older people who have those problems have triple the risk of dementia, including Alzheimer's disease, than those without those problems, according to the scientists from Group Health Cooperative, the Veterans Administration and the University of Washington.

We don't know if exercise prevents this or if people who exercise are simply the ones who can do this and ergo, don't develop dementia. It is an interesting sign for diagnosing the disease. When there is some cure for all this, then it would be helpful!

I hope researchers find some way of preventing dementia. It is important to me as well as anyone else. I would love to live a long time and not go insane.

WASHINGTON — President Bush said today that he would pull U.S. troops out of Iraq if he didn't think the United States could win the war against terrorism.

"And if I didn't think it was important that we succeed, I wouldn't stay," Bush told the National Restaurant Assn. convention in Chicago. "And the reason it's important is that we must understand that we're in a global war against a totalitarian group of people who will kill innocent life, there or here, in order to achieve an objective."

Bush quoted Al Qaeda leaders in Iraq as saying democracies are weak and capitalist societies are soft. "Their view is that if they kill enough innocent people, we will tire and leave," he said.

The terrorists, he added, will be disappointed.

The president pointed to the new government that Iraqi leaders formed Saturday after three rounds of popular elections last year.

"The world saw the beginning of something new," he said. "Constitutional democracy at the heart of the Middle East.... Its formation marks a victory for the cause of freedom in the Middle East.

The same old tired victory speech. Too bad the people opposing us laugh at this speech. And they seem pretty tireless, too. We are going bankrupt rapidly due to this bull-headed war. Time to cut more taxes.

&hearts Boeing Builds Mini Bombs To Drop On Iraqi Neighborhoods

(AP) — Boeing Co. on Monday unveiled a line of small, lightweight bombs that the U.S. Air Force will use in urban combat situations like the war in Iraq.

The small-diameter bombs weigh 250 pounds and can be used by all Air Force bombers, according to Boeing. By using the smaller bombs, planes can carry about four times as many bombs and fire them from farther away. A B-2 Stealth bomber can carry as many as 80 of the small-diameter bombs.

The bombs also will help limit civilian casualties during airstrikes in urban areas, Air Force Col. Richard Justice said at an unveiling ceremony. Boeing said its own tests show the bombs hit within 4 feet of their target.

Justice said Boeing's development of the bomb was one of the speediest and most successful weapons development in Air Force history. He said the bomb should be used in combat as early as this summer.

And if that doesn't work, we will use poison gas or nukes, right? This madness never ends. We have a talent for creating death systems. This, in the name of bringing peace and democracy to Muslims.

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan - President Hamid Karzai ordered an investigation into U.S. airstrikes on a village that killed at least 16 civilians and asked to meet with the U.S. commander of forces in Afghanistan, his office said Tuesday.

Karzai expressed "concern at the coalition forces' decision to bomb civilian areas" but also strongly condemned the "terrorists' act of cowardice" to use civilians as human shields.

A statement from Karzai's office said the bombing of the village of Azizi in Kandahar province late Sunday and early Monday killed 16 civilians, although local officials say 17 died. The U.S.-led coalition said up to 80 militants were killed in the strike.

The article is illustrated by the usual picuture of a dying child whose guts were blown up. We can't figure out how killing lots of families enrage lots of families. As we lose our iron grip on Afghanistan, we gripe that they don't appreciated the great gift of freedom and democracy we are bestowing upon them.

Rense: Clerics in Kabul mosques are urging worshippers to join the Taliban's fight against the Afghan government and international troops.

Insurgency has spread recently, with many provinces falling under control of Islamists intent on driving out foreign forces. Encouraged by this growing militancy, some imams here believe the time is right to call for holy war.

"The only thing (people) can do is fight against the government and I am telling them they can do that. They can pick up a gun and fight against the government," said Abdullah, a 52-year-old imam wary of giving his full name for fear of reprisals.

Support for the militant Islamist Taliban traditionally comes from the conservative, Pashtun-dominated south and east. Attacks against security forces are common in provinces near the Pakistan border but had been rare elsewhere.

That changed last year, when more than 1,500 civilians were killed. In recent months, violence has spread swiftly, moving north to districts just outside Kabul.

Winning the hearts and minds of Muslims is failing spectacularily. It is going to fail more and more the more we kill them. Our country can't figure this out because we are filled with hate and loathing of Muslims who sit athwart oil wells or trading crossroads.

Virtually every American news story pitches this matter as if the people stealing Palestinian lands illegally are offering them a fine deal so they can have a country! This is disgusting. It is exactly like Hitler offering Czechoslovakia the opportunity to hand over half of the country to him quietly.

He still invaded the other half after Britain betrayed the Czechs.

BEIJING, May 22 (Xinhua) -- China and Germany have reached consensus on technology transfer and other key issues regarding the construction of a four-billion-euro maglev line linking Shanghai and Hangzhou cities in east China, a well-informed Chinese official said here Monday.

Wu Xiangming, director of the China national maglev transportation technology research center, told the fourth China Germany High-Technology Dialog Forum the two sides have agreed on the operation model of the project, the division of general responsibilities, technology transfer and the delivery of electromechanical equipment.

Germany's Siemens company has agreed to transfer technologies to its joint ventures in China for the manufacturing of the power supply and operational control systems, he said.

Another German supplier, Krupp will also transfer technologies for the production of the body of the train, railroad switches, and other parts, he said.

Wu said the general technological scheme for the Shanghai-Hangzhou maglev line and technological specifications of sub-systems have already been worked out.

As our long distance trains wheeze along behind the cattle cars or rattle along ancient tracks using medieval equipment, China prepares for the future. This is also part of the ongoing high level diplomacy of the Hu & Wen duo that Americans mock at their peril.

BEIJING, May 23 (Xinhua) -- In a rare high-level meeting, Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing will hold talks with his Japanese counterpart Taro Aso on the sidelines of the Asia Cooperation Dialogue conference, scheduled to be held in Qatar on May 23 and 24.

"The two Foreign Ministers will have an in-depth discussions on China-Japan relations," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao told a news briefing Tuesday.

Liu said the meeting was arranged for Tuesday in Qatar local time but no other details were available.

Leaders of the two countries have suspended exchanges since 2001, after Japanese Prime Minister Koizumi Junichiro began paying homage at the controversial Yasukuni Shrine that honors convicted Japanese war criminals.

This will be Li's first meeting with Aso, who became Japan's Foreign Minister last October.

Li was chosen for this role after the Chinese leadership mulled over possible candidates. They don't want a confrontation with Japan, they figure working to ooze Japan into understanding their futures lie in the East and not the West is a delicate operation.

I expect the neocons running our messy diplomatic relations to work day and night to throw hundreds of monkey wrenches into this.

BREST, France (AFP) - A freak wave reportedly measuring 12 metres (40 feet) hit a British ferry on its way to Spain, injuring five passengers and forcing the ship to shelter in France, officials said.

Brittany Ferries flagship the Pont-Aven was carrying 1,149 people from Plymouth to Santander in Spain when the wave struck late Sunday in the English Channel, French emergency workers said.

Freak waves are a great hazard at sea. They can topple huge container ships. Global warming probably has increased the number of such waves due to the increasing dynamism of the ecosystem.

WASHINGTON, May 22 — Despite suspicions among consumers about rapidly rising gasoline prices and record oil industry profits, a federal investigation concluded Monday that the jump at the pump over the last year had not been the result of unlawful price manipulation.

The Federal Trade Commission said the sharp increase in fuel costs was attributable to market forces — namely big drops in supply and production and runs on inventories after major damage to refineries, ports and pipelines. In a report that Congress ordered last year after hurricanes struck the nation's refining hub on the Gulf Coast, the commission found no evidence of price collusion or improper reductions of inventory or supplies to increase company profits.

"The evidence collected in this investigation indicated that firms behaved competitively," the commission said.

HAHAHAHA. Well, whew! And I thought the 9/11 Commission plumbed the depths of stupidity. If anyone swallows this whale, they deserve to lose everything they own and have their children sold into slavery which happens to be what these clowns plan for us in the future.
