B.A.

Interesting the confidence of Israel. Just like they were sure they'd defeat Hezbollah in three days, back in 2006. It seems Israelis are so filled with hatred for their Muslim enemies they fail to see evolution at work. Armies evolve, enemies study you, adapt and learn. The extensive article about the '06 Lebanon campaign at Asia Times is very enlightening in that matter. A guerrilla with surveillance drone planes? They've come a long way since the 80's. And Iranians are a sophisticated lot. Naturally they do not want to be bullied into not building nuclear stations like any other nation, but their stubbornness probably hides a comprehensive defense and retaliation plan that can only strengthen their image in the Middle East and the wider Islamic world as the only active opponent of the hated Zionist foe. Which they will cash in on. Or do Americans really think Ahmadinejad is just a suicidal fool with a big mouth? Look at his audience and watch his influence grow.
Is anybody putting themselves in their opponents shoes? If I were Iran, would I just passively wait, after years of warning, for an attack, of would I use my international contacts, my oil and my war experience to prepare a comprehensive response? Who would I hit hardest, fearsome Israel or vulnerable US? How is the US vulnerable?
Still, the best laid out plans cannot stop things from getting out of control, specially when the long term Israel plan is the taming or destruction of Iraq, Iran and Syria.

Final act: Fat lady is about to sing!! BRICS is getting ready to step onto stage:

'The Shrinking US global reach'
http://www.321gold.com/editorials/buckler/buckler060208.html

'The US Economic Recession - an update'
http://www.321gold.com/editorials/buckler/buckler060408.html

China and Russia are not going to interrupt US from making THE fatal mistake if this act goes green - this will turn US into the pariah country like Nazi Germany!!

JSmith

"Iran is a democracy. Perhaps more so than the US."

And perhaps not - candidates for election in Iran are vetted by the (unelected) Council of Guardians, to make sure they're Islamic enough.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guardian_Council

That groups ensures that douchebags like President Ahmadidgeridoo get elected and reasonable sorts like Khatami don't.

"Or do Americans really think Ahmadinejad is just a suicidal fool with a big mouth?"

I don't think he's especially _suicidal_...

blues

The $2.4 billion B2 stealth bomber crash on take-off from Guam on 2-23-08 illustrates that our high-tech war machines are at the point of sacrificing reliability for efficiency.

First of all, regardless of the (claimed) fact that the crash was due to water lodged in two of several sensor units, the truth is that this crash is squarely the result of faulty programming. The pilots do not ordinarily fly this machine much at all; its computers control the takeoff. It has been said that the computers were "fooled" by faulty sensor data. This is total bullshit. All critical (even consumer) software is expected to incorporate "reasonableness checking." This "reasonableness checking" operates to identify gross errors and unreasonable results in computations. For example, if you go to an ATM to ask for you balance, and the machine finds that you suddenly have $1,000,000 in your account with no prior notification, it should not just mechanically inform you that you can now withdraw $1,000,000! Once the plane deviated from level flight at an altitude that would smash a wing, the on-board supercomputer should have "thrown an exception" to override that fatal maneuver! So this is a case of high ($2.4B) stupidity.

Beyond all that, I am convinced that the concept of stealth aircraft is now obsolete. The Russians are said to possess systems that can easily track "stealth aircraft." A laser searchlight would probably suffice, as a painted aircraft would warm up and thus pop right up on an infrared camera; this is so obvious. And it is well known that there is now "stealth radar," and it works fine! Every non-transparent (electrically) thing above absolute zero temperature radiates "passive microwaves," which can now be detected and tracked quite efficiently. This stealth radar is itself practically invisible, as it does not emit any illuminating signal.

These are just the most obvious methods. The Russians can detect these planes, and if they do so on behalf of the Iranians, we could lose about 1/3 or so of the B2 fleet. The Russians could also provide state-of- the-art command and control information to their Iranian friends.

The real military experts know what iran could do. Iran may also possess Chinese stealth submarines that can launch Russian Sunburn supersonic, surface-hugging stealth cruise missiles. Those could very possibly destroy about six of our eleven nuclear carrier naval battle groups.

Americans should assume that if Iran is attacked by anyone, world oil production would come to a virtual complete halt in about three days. I would also assume that Iraq would be flooded with perhaps 50,000 heavily armed Iranian troops, coordinated with Russian and Chinese intelligence.

blues

Not 50,000; make that up to 50,000,000 troops.

Gary

I'm beginning to think that our national character, our national
personality itself, is deeply screwed up. We Americans are such
a bunch of anal-retentive, self righteous, control freaks.

Remember; The Puritans came here first. John Winthrop beat out
Benjamin Franklin by a hundred year. The Puritans were looking for religious freedom and ended up burning witches. Since then we've had wave after wave of religious "awakenings". Thankfully all of them have ended in farce but this one now is different for reasons above. We have the unholy marriage of "Christian" fundamentalism with Jewish fundamentaism with elements of the military (esp the AirForce), with the media, and into the deeper
parts of our psyches.

Besides the obviousness of it all from seeing the news, I see evidence of it walking down the street with my dogs. We have
incredibly anal-retentive looking yards along with monster mansions with incredibly sterile interiors. Most of the dogs in
my hood never go in the houses. They sit in their little restricted
spaces in a funk as they are too "messy" when they go inside.
I could understand this on a farm (or people with allergies) but most of us live in the burbies. And often the allergies are from
living in houses that are too sterile that immune systems of kids
dont form properly from some contact with dirt and messiness
in gerneral.

When I spent a month in Ireland a few years back. Dogs could go everywhere but restaurants, public bldgs, gardens, and playgrounds. You could buy your dog a seat on the DART. And just about every pub had a dog or two in it. As long as the dogs didnt bite or chase stock it was no big deal where the hell they went. Life is messy. Stepping in shit is part of life.

I'm getting winded here but all this is symptomatic of our
national character. We've finally left the attempts of rationalism
by the founding fathers behind. We burnt the constitution. We
wiped our arses on the Bill of Rights, and now all we have left
is our self righteous finger wagging.

JSmith

"I am convinced that the concept of stealth aircraft is now obsolete."

Actually... the concept of manned aircraft is now all but obsolete.

"As long as the dogs didnt bite or chase stock it was no big deal where the hell they went. Life is messy. Stepping in shit is part of life."

I hate dogs almost as much as I hate dog owners. Especially if I step in a nice fresh pile when I'm running in the park.

Gary

"When I spent a month in Ireland a few years back. Dogs could go everywhere but restaurants, public bldgs, gardens and playgrounds."

My quote above.

Geez, arent the above enough places where you cant take a dog?
Are Americans that much different physically than the Irish?
Maybe so.

I do NOT let my dogs shit on others lawns (they cant anyhow as
I have a fence) And I do NOT take them to grassy parks where kids are playing. I do not take them to maintained beaches where people swim. And I do NOT let them get near the neighbors llamas and sheep.

Jogging trails thru fields and woods are a different matter, as well as trails in Nat'l/State Forests--but not Natl Parks.. I'm very wiling to compromise here.

On behalf of the dog owners of Amerika, I extend my deepest
apologies for the soiling of your $200 slave labor made jogging
shoes. Tut tut tut. How shocking.

It aint no fun
livin in the kingdom
of anal-retention

DeVaul

I have to agree with Gary about America. I don't see anyone out reading the constitution or even giving a shit as to what's in it. Instead, they come out of their churches and temples and yell "we are right and you are wrong!"

Fortunately, they seem to do this on just one day of the week, but when there is no more oil, it could extend to 24/7.

hIGHcastle

Elaine,

There are some interesting things going on today (Saturday) about these political tensions.

Article:
http://prisonplanet.com/articles/june2008/060708_media_blackout.htm

Attendee list:
http://www.roguegovernment.com/news.php?id=9770

From the article:
"Ben Bernanke, Condoleezza Rice, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton amongst a host of other global power brokers have all convened in Chantilly Virginia to secretly discuss the future of the world - yet not one mainstream U.S. corporate media outlet has uttered a single word about the 2008 Bilderberg conference.

Bilderbergers seem to enjoy visiting the U.S. because they can be assured that in the "land of the free," the American "free press" are certain to follow orders and not print even a puff piece about a confab of over 125 of the globe's most influential movers and shakers."

DeVaul

Wow! You are completely vindicated, Elaine, by this secret meeting of the world's top leaders right under our noses.

Anyone who now believes there is no conspiracy to control the media needs to have an immmediate lobotomy so that their intelligence level can shoot upwards fast.

Whenever these criminals "get together", something bad usually follows. At least they are not meeting outside a bomb shelter like they did right before 9/11.

Fetung

Elaine, here is an excellent analysis of Obama's speech:
http://therealnews.com/t/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=31&Itemid=74&jumival=1621&updaterx=2008-06-06+18%3A18%3A26

The Real News was started by Kennedy family I believe and has been one of the best new network out there.

Elaine Meinel Supkis

I have both dogs and cats. They don't go out with me, they have work to do at home guarding it from invaders like field mice, hawks, coyotes, bears, humans, etc. They do a pretty good job, too.

But then, they have an entire mountain to themselves! But I did this in New Jersey and NYC: the dogs, of course, must be walked in the city. They visit each other and love to go out. It is a social thing. As a human, I loved walking the pooches. Every kid in the world wanted to play with them or pet them, being friendly, loving dogs.

Bilderberger: they love to tell us to shut up. They don't have these stupid secret meetings. Then they have stupid, secret meetings. I am NEVER invited. They do invite usurpers and newcomers. But if the Queen of the Netherlands or England get invited, why not me? After all, we are related. Rats.

It is all my fault, doing the wrong things, yapping about the wrong things. But then, if I came, I would be there with charts, graphs, studies and history books, yelling nonstop. They hate yelling. They want agreement.

Gary

The worst affliction of humans must be the group think mentality.
Liberals are cursed with this as much as conservatives. Truth is usually to be found on the outskirts of the hive. Out in the
boonies. With the "lowlifes". Cabdrivers often have a better grip on
how the real world works even if they dont have sophisticated
vocabularies or syntax. Sometimes these people may go over
the brink with conspiracies, but thats really not their fault as the
biggest conspiracy in this nation is the keep the educational system for the average Joe's and Janes only barely good enough so that they can push buttons with pictographs on them or make them some money another way. Smarter people can come from either the towers of Yale or be imported from 3rd world countries whose economies have been wrecked by the IMF or the wars of
GenDynamics and Northrup.

If y'all would just clean up after the dog instead of saying "shit happens" you wouldn't have to apologize!

The charts you show for oil production stop in 2005. World oil production likely peaked in 2005. Mexican oil production in particular is falling off a cliff, down 24% year-over-year this last month.

But the real story isn't production, it is net exports. Great Britain produces a lot of oil, but it doesn't matter to oil prices, because they import oil on the global market. Since last November, Mexico & Venezuela's net exports are down nearly 40% on an annualized basis.

In any case, global oil production has been essentially flat since 2005, with peaks and valleys along the way. Demand has been increasing expoentially throughout that period. Infinite growth of consumption cannot occur against a finite resource. The means of curbing the growth will either be rationing or high prices, or both.

That's not to say political factors don't influence oil prices. If we attack Iran, it will take 4 million barrels a day off the world market. That alone will produce instant chaos and shortages around the world. There is no swing producer left who can make up even a fraction of that (if there is any extra capacity at all).

Even worse, Iran will surely retaliate by sabotaging oil production, storage, and transport facilities. The actual loss of production will be far more than 4 million barrels a day.

Note that I leave aside the issue of the monstrous evil of an unprovoked attack on a country that is doing what it is allowed to do under internation treaties signed by both Iran & the US. There are far too many people who have lost their moral compass, and for them only the practical agruments against an attack will hold sway. There are others, of course, such as the neocons, that have become unhinged from reality, and no agruments will work with them.

P.S. You have an unclosed HTML tag after you bolded parts of Obama's speech.

Jojo

Searching for the sanity of salvation on the road less traveled lined with yellow fiduciary bricks to Damascus, we tread this path with rage mixed with attention deficit anemia, stumbling along disguised as dancing we go over landmines of toxic piles of the poop from Bilderberg hell-hounds. Yuck!
Even now, crouched in the recessionary martial arts pose of "Starving Pig", with a restricted diet, shedding carbon like a smoldering rain forest, employing the time honored technique of holding oneself up by means of mental props from the past, we pause.
Checking our moral compass spinning like a windmill, while the technological will of corporate/consumer society is rocketing to planets that resemble a end-result of our own continued violation of this planet, I personally, unfortunately must get back to my neglected cyberspace farm chores.
First chore on the list....canning the corn.

Wow! Has anyone else heard about the press corp that follows Obama everywhere getting locked on a flight to Illinois (supposedly to fly with him) while he slipped off to Bilderberg?

http://americangoy.blogspot.com/2008/06/bilderberg-2008-aipac-2008-obama-and.html
"Minutes later, communications director Robert Gibbs casually informed the press that Obama had stayed behind in Washington for “meetings”, without specifying who the meetings were with. As we began to frantically call our assignment desks to alert them that the presumptive Democratic nominee was running free in Washington, the plane took off for Chicago, leaving us trapped on a plane. "

"Look at the location Obama was in.

Obama's operatives duping the press happened June 5 / June 6, at the Dulles International Airport in Virginia.

During the ongoing Bilderberg conference, which was taking place in Chantilly, Virginia."
