mad mike

there is no limit to human greed and folly.(tm)
having sed that, and it bears repeating, uhmerikans are up against it.
some bad things are going to happen latter this year.
i predict no presidential elections.
expect gasoline shortages.
and expect food riots. and race riots.
and martial law. and forced labor.
rolling national black outs
nothing will happen as long as there is alcohol in the stores and illegal drugs available.
some of the things i mentioned will happen on purpose. some will happen from neglect and short sightedness. some will happen from stupidity.
mostly these things happen because everyone is in denial. dont rock the boat, i want my share at raping the environment or financial markets. plus folks figger, "what? little old me can effect this great big system?".
in a multitrillion dollar world economy who who would miss a million bucks? or for that matter a billion bucks?
but it seems all these increments add up and now we have pending disaster.
when people's salary depends on them not understanding, expect them not to understand.
UNDERSTAND!

finop

that's why i dont have to worry--no salary :p

Very good analysis, Elaine. Thanks. For anyone who knows anything about history, evolution, biology, anthropology (and even psychology), the end result has always been obvious. The Green revolution simply postponed the inevitable. (Though I'm not sure what the availability of alcohol and illegal drugs has to do with it.) I am 65 and recognized the problem in my mid-twenties. I had my tubes tied after my second child. Hardly anyone listened to me then, except my aunt, after she had 6 kids. This has been a train wreck waiting to happen for a long while.

I'm wondering about the micro-organisms that are attacking humans at an ever-increasing rate. This year my husband and I (and many others in our small community) had the worst flu we ever had in our lives.

Judy:

I think he means that as long as alcohol is available in the stores and drugs can be had, the most unstable element most likely to blow the lid off will remain relatively quiescent. Not that a nice bottle of wine ever hurt anyone!

Elaine:

Your versatility astounds me! Thanks for another fascinating insight.

Booze is a great pacifier except when it causes drunken brawls.

Expect unlimited amounts of 100 proof vodka (made from subsidized corn) at a grocery store near you; $2.50 a gallon.

Yes, plenty of moonshine in our futures. But don't forget that other cash crop that needs very little preparation :-)

Elaine Meinel Supkis

Yup. It will be in great demand some fine day. Along with poppies.
