Periodically, NASA panics about how old its staff is and then they forget what they were trying to change. Harumph. What? Oh, yes! The space race. Turtles win and all that, right?

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - NASA's work force is graying and the agency lacks a long-term plan for luring qualified workers to help send astronauts to the moon and Mars, a National Research Council report says.ADVERTISEMENT
"NASA doesn't have a lot of people leaving, so what's been happening is they're aging in place," said MIT aeronautics professor Daniel Hastings, who co-chaired the panel of aerospace industry experts who wrote the report.
The space agency has been too focused on short-term labor problems, such as what to do with some 900 employees whose work is ending along with the soon-to-be-retired space shuttle, the experts wrote. And there has not been enough attention on the type of skills needed in the future and the aging of the work force, they said.
"They actually don't have a strategy," said Hastings. "They're too focused on the short term."
This "strategy" stuff bedevils everyone working for Bush. He is a man of no vision so everyone is groping around in the dark, banging into each other, blowing up, falling down, etc. Bush has decided to irritate the Russians to death and of course, they are the ones putting people into orbit at regular intervals. We are strictly earth-bound. Time to attack Iran!
Not only is our space program floundering, everything is floundering. Even the housing market is beginning to flounder, the only thing not floundering are the fish with both eyes on one side of their heads.
So many young people have graduated from the top colleges with degrees in the same fields that people already working in NASA have only they can't get hired. First, they need "experience." Working for whom, pray tell?
OH! I get it! They work for the military/industrial complex that needs the top brains right away! So off they go, to toil at top secret methods of waging WWIII, dropping nukes on the rest of the planet. Whoopeee.
Meanwhile, our future enemies who Bush is desperately trying to make into enemies, are going into space. And we are losing the space race. I suppose the plan is to nuke the winners of the space race. But alas for us, this will be most difficult since they will also be able to nuke us.
Which is why NASA, our military plans and the army of scientists being trained by China matter. We have to re-direct our energies. Stop bombing and start building.
Arrest Bush! Then we can set to work again.
I hope the Mars Marxists say something here! Gads.
They don't understand, I desperately want to send them to Mars, all of them. Alas, this is proving increasingly difficult as they hitched their star to Bush's wagon that is only a handbasket to hell. :)

Where do you get "Mars Marxists"? Most of the space bloggers seem to be libertarians.
