Evidently Sadr was right, the meeting of Bush and Maliki was about getting rid of him. Since that meeting, the latest attempt at curbing Sadr's brigades has stepped up. Only today have they realized they are now at war with Maliki as well as the Americans. This means they will go underground.
&hearts It was a very big mistake for the Americans to shoot dead Sadr top operatives.
NAJAF, Iraq (AFP) - Tension was mounting in the Iraqi city of Najaf after an American soldier killed a senior ally of radical Shiite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr during a raid on his house.Sadr supporters and local police told AFP Wednesday that US and Iraqi soldiers had stormed the family home of Sahib al-Ameri, the president of a pro-Sadr political foundation in the holy city of Najaf, and shot him dead.
The US military confirmed one of its troops had shot Ameri in an overnight raid by Iraqi forces, backed up by coalition military advisers.
A statement said Ameri was implicated in recent bomb attacks on US and Iraqi forces, and was shot by an adviser after he fled to the roof of his house and aimed an assault rifle at an Iraqi soldier.
"The coalition soldier observed the man's hostile intent against the Iraqi soldier and shot the man, neutralising the threat and resulting in his death," US headquarters said in the statement.
Up until now, Maliki couldn't do anything about Sadr but with the escalation of American troops, he is now making his power play. Proof this is fueled by Americans is due to the very high death rate since the Bush/Maliki meeting in Jordan. It looks like SCIRI is now our ally in Iraq. Interesting game of musical chairs using IEDs.
Details about all this is kept carefully out of the news. The fight for Bagdhad won't end there, of course, it opens a new front in a multi-frontal war. Now, not only are the Sunnis fighting us, so are a significant number of Shi'ites. Sadr, himself, will now go totally underground and like Col. X and the others fighting us, will be hidden from view. Since we are occupying Iraq for our own ends, even if we succeed in putting in power our latest version of Saddam, this won't mean we can operate with impunity.
The nexus of problems our new colonialism is causing won't disappear but rather, will continue to grow.
&hearts The Ba'ath party isn't dead, it is changing shape yet again.
AMMAN, Jordan - Saddam Hussein's Baath Party threatened Wednesday to retaliate if the ousted Iraqi leader is executed, warning in an Internet posting it would target U.S. interests anywhere. The statement appeared on a Web site known to represent the party, which was disbanded after U.S.-led forces overthrew Saddam in 2003. The site is believed to be run from Yemen, where several exiled Baathists are based.
The whole 9/11 business was to stop this sort of thing. Instead, it is expanding. In other words, more 'bin Ladens' are appearing and they are all focusing not on their homestates but like him, on US. Here. This nightmare scenario whereby phalanxes of determined sucided fighters probe our every weakness isn't a great way to secure America.
Of course, no actions this last 50 years has been for this purpose. Just like Vietnam or our battles over Cuba made things here much more dangerous, the chances of nuclear war, higher, not lower.
&hearts Here is another story showing clearly that soldiers are being poured into Iraq.
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Pentagon said on Wednesday it will send about 3,500 troops to Kuwait to serve as a standby force for use in Iraq or elsewhere in the region. The Bush administration is weighing force increases as it considers alternative strategies in Iraq.
The deployment order was sent to a brigade of the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
They are converging on Iraq from wherever Bush can find any troops available. Of course, they pretend troops aren't being poured in until all the political duckies and all the medis mouths have made this an inevitable 'choice.' For two months, they have carefully hammered into people's minds, the need for a 'final surge' etc. This is why our demonstration in January will be most important: a shot across the prow. Of course, as usual, it will be a fiat accomplished, the fatal poison will be working and proof will be all the coffins streaming home.
But victory will be theirs! This is what matters now. So instead of one or two dead soldiers a day, we are seeing five to seven dead a day. And evidently, the public may disapprove but they are still shopping, still begging for cheap loans, still acting like it is a peaceful nation with endless prospects.
Grim reality is at bay, at least for now. Even passing the dire 9/11 milestone for the dead hasn't fazed them at all. Sadr, who had absolutely nothing to do with 9/11, is the latest victim of that dire day.
