Continuing with remembering Katrina which happened a mere 3 years ago. There are still people who are 'homeless' after that huge storm wiped out much of New Orleans. The behavior of our emperor and his entire entourage was extremely racist and vicious. They didn't even try to pretend to give a hoot about the teeming masses of the poor who couldn't escape that death trap.
Here are some clippings from my archives which show clearly what was going on back then. There was NO EXCUSE for any of the gross negligence, incompetence and infantility shown during an entire month of slow-motion disasters. Note how the media protects McCain, for example, who was a cruel and useless man while thousands were drowning or sitting on roofs. He and Bush celebrated his stupid birthday! And he wants to lead America.
Dual citizen alien Chertoff is STILL head of the grossly misnamed 'Homeland Security' and he is about the closest thing we have to an invisible man except he is competing with Cheney for that coveted title. Letting these sorts of creatures run our empire is just plain stupid. The media touts McCain as an 'experienced' guy but so far, all I see is someone who can't give one hoot about millions losing their homes. Perhaps he imagines they can all jet off to various other homes, too many to count.
Right. This is what America wants? How insane is this? Well, maybe the gods will keep punishing us until we finally screw our heads back on straighter.

Elaine, the most baffling thing for the rest of the world is the refusal of the USA to accept aid after Katrina.
Any country in the world can have a disaster bigger than its resources can handle and secondly when any other country has a disaster USA has always said "Can we help?" The rest of the world wanted to return the favour.

You never hardly hear how when the news came out that the
levees had burst, damn near every boat owner/sportsman in
the Lafayette area trailered up their boats and headed to NOL.
(Lafayette is a city of close to 100,000 about 100 mi west
of NOL)
They were turned back at the city line by FEMA/Blackwater
goons and told that, "things were under control" and they
were'nt needed.
Also other people were dissuaded from helping by the LIE that
people were shooting at the rescuers--they were shooting in the
attempt to make noise and get attention.
8/29/05 needs to be burned into the nations memory more
so than 9/11
Also Cuba and Venezuela were ready to offer aid and they were
turned down as well. Something that the sportsmen in Lafeyette
and the Cubans have in common being slapped in the face by
the deranged US govt.
We used to laugh at the corruption in Louisiana with its flamboyant govnah, Edwin Edwards, and his shakedowns
of casino boat licesnse applicants. We always compared LA with New Jersey for crookedness. But really Louisiana cant hold a
candle to WA DC and "K" Street.

Yes, they barricaded the city and they even referred to this as 'urban renewal'. The plan was painfully obvious: to make life hell for the black community so the valuable land could be sold to developers and it turned into a Disney land for drunks.

Just seeing those pictures of the 'Dome' makes me mad as they rushed to get that fixed up and operating for Saints games as that would 'bring the people together'. Bullshit. That 'Dome' was a death trap. Horrible stories emerged about non-existant sanitary conditions, dead bodies strewn about, argggh!
Bokonon, aid was refused as BushCo wanted those people to suffer and die. The US could have handled it on their own, but Bush chose to ignore the aftermath of Katrina for days. Then he let FEMA trickle in. Very slowly. But, even before that, he had contracted military goons to patrol the streets of New Orleans with orders to seize weapons and 'shoot to kill' any looters who weren't looters at all. They were looking for food, water and clothes. I rememeber those images. People were not seen hauling off TVs. They were carrying what they needed to survive. Some were shot for that. It's a horrible time in history and one that still is with that area to this day.

From RigZone:
Gustav Path Includes More, Bigger Oil, Gas Gulf Platforms

Thanks for the link, Blunt Force Trauma! Yes, the bluster that the oil rigs are safer is total propaganda.

Here is the news about "Gustav."
It has been roughly stationary over Havana, Cuba for perhaps 12 hours. It has been gathering energy cumulatively, and is now a Category 5 hurricane. It will either sit over Havana forever like the Red Spot of Jupiter, or go somewhere else.
There are many deep sea oil rigs at stake in the path of this storm. If they get hit, it will not be just the surface platforms that get taken down. Hurricanes extend all the way to the ocean floor, so they can wreck the oil and gas drill holes directly.
There is much "debate about how fast the drill holes and platforms can be replaced. My guess: an average of maybe two years.
Fill those gas tanks! Have the rice and lentils and black-eye peas on hand. No oil = no trucks = no food.
Thank the two party "system" I was always been warning you about. It was always about power. Power is always power over others. Unless you know otherwise, YOU are one of the "others." POLITICS IS PORNOGRAPHY BY OTHER MEANS. YOUR SWEET LITTLE ASS IS THE "OTHER MEANS," BABY!

Already, police raids in Minnesota to stop possible demonstrators of the RNC's chosen stooge McCain.
Crackdown begins: Food Not Bombs house among Saturday raids
.....9:45 A woman named Heather Adams just came out of the Food Not Bombs house and gave Guntzel the following account: She arrived from Chicago at 3 a.m. this morning with plans to protest at the RNC. At 8 a.m. she woke up to find police in the house wearing riot gear and camouflage flak jackets. She says they had rifles drawn. Adams has a broken ankle, and when officers ordered her to roll over on her stomach, she says she was slow to do so and the officer, she says, pushed her with his boot.

Elaine, not to worry about Hurricane Gustav and NOLA. Homelandinsecurity CEO Chertoff has it under control. It seems he may have outsourced to private contractor Blackwater. From firedoglake:

Thanks, Rockpaperscissors.
Yes, Blackguards all. They will pour into the city and attack the poor. This is how they were trained in Iraq. The hell of Iraq is brought home to the US. I wrote about that in 2005. And it is ten times worse today. We are securing Iraq so CHINA can buy up all the oil fields right from under our stupid, ignorant, idiotic emperor and his gang.

As America becomes more feeble and hollowed out by its
pirates, it becomes more paranoid, privatized and militant.
Everything is being run on the mercenary/military model.
Our citizens are no longer being thought of as citizens by
these paramilitary organizations, but are thought of as
potential threats. Instead of "serve and protect" its, "contain
the threat".
You see this with the conventions and all other sorts of major
public gatherings. Any rambunctious unruly behaviour is immediately percieved as a threat ,instead of people simply excercizing their right of speech.
Little wonder almost all police today have no friends outside of
law enforcement circles. The divide between the powers that be
and the "citizens" (laugh track) has never been greater.

My cousin worked for Wildlife and fishery back then, in Lafayette, and they all got their boats and came down. They were told to wear clothes without the badges on them, and when they came down to New Orleans they were turned back - because the NOPD could not assure their safety. Everyone was shooting. Alot of women came down with school busses and were turned backe for the same reason. Even when they said we will take our chances at being shot at - they were still turned away.
