We live on this little mountain in Upstate New York. New England has been famous for centuries for the spectacular fall foliage color display. Due to the mix of trees, we get a month-long series of colorful contrasts and changes. Coupled with changes in the weather, when the sun shines or the clouds move over this amazing landscape, everything changes radically. It is a never-ending wonder to watch each hour of each day go by, contemplating the contours of these mountains under constantly changing conditions.
These photos are from the beginning of October until today. The last photo shows the heavy frost we had last night as it is now edging more towards winter. But bright, sunny, even warm days still lie ahead. The trees know that it is time to suck out all their sap from the leaves and branches to the deep roots so it can be sheltered all winter long. Then, in the spring, this vital fluid flows back to the highest branches and the trees resume growing.
So let us not be angry about politics or economics but sit back and look at Mother Nature as she does her annual strip tease up north, here in New York state. Click on all images to enlarge.
